Bootham School
About us:
Bootham School is a private Quaker boarding school located on Bootham in the city of York, England. It accommodates both boys and girls ranging in age from 3 to 19 and had an enrollment of 605 pupils as of 2016. Founded by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) on January 6, 1823, it's noted as one of seven Quaker schools in England. The school's first headmaster was William Simpson.
The school has a unique approach to admissions, typically not requiring potential students below year 5 to take a test for entry, but rather to join in on a taster day. Seniors are given an entrance exam to ensure the school can provide the right advice for each student. For sixth form entry, students need to have 7 GCSEs grade C or higher (or 6 GCSEs, 3 of which...).
Bootham School is known for its warm and friendly environment, run sensibly with an application of family common sense. An active relationship between staff, students, parents, and guardians is central to a positive boarding experience. The school's ethos is guided by the Quaker testimonies of Equality, Peace, Simplicity, Stewardship, and Truth, reflecting its commitment to a nurturing and ethical educational environment.
The school is situated in a beautiful campus just minutes away from York Minster and continues to build on its national reputation as a school with a difference. The address is Bootham School, Borough Bootham, York, YO30 7BU, and for more information, you can contact them at 01904 623261 or via email at Office@boothamschool.com.
